Gennady Samuilovich Rosenberg was born May 30, 1949 in Ufa. In 1971 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty (with special courses Faculty of Biology) of Bashkir State University. After serving in the army (1971-1973) all his labor activity is connected with the Academy of Sciences. From 1973 he worked in the Department of Physics and Mathematics of Institute of Biology of the Bashkir Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, since 1987 – at the Institute of Ecology of Volga Basin of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Tolyatti), a member of the directory of the Institute (1990-1992). From December 1992 to the present day – Director of the Institute of Ecology of Volga Basin of Russian Academy of Sciences. From 2000 he is the Head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences of Volga University named after V.N. Tatishchev.
In 1977 G.S. Rosenberg defended the candidate’s dissertation at Moscow State University , in 1984 – doctorate in biological sciences at Tartu State University, in 1996 he was awarded the title of professor.
June 21, 2000 G.S. Rosenberg was awarded the honorary title “Honored Worker of Science of the Russian Federation.”
At May 26 2000 he was elected Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences,  Department of Biological Sciences.
G.S.Rozenberg is specialist in phytocenology and general ecology, where he obtained a number of fundamental results, the methods of analyzing the structure and dynamics of ecosystems. His research on quantitative phytocenology were awarded II Prize at 1981 Moscow Society of Naturalists G.S.Rozenberg  has proposed a new procedure for ecological forecasting “model storm”. He has developed an expert system for the environmental analysis of large regions and conducted a comprehensive environmental analysis of the Volga basin in Samara region (this work was awarded the I prize State Committee of the USSR , 1991).
G.S. Rosenberg is developing criteria for sustainable development of the territories of various sizes. His method have been used to solve many practical problems of a purely geo-botanical and ecological research.
G.S. Rosenberg is the author of over 650 scientific papers, including – 52 monographs.
For many years he headed the Section of the State Scientific and Technical Program “Ecological Safety of Russia”, “Biodiversity”. Ye is a member of the Environmental Expert Council of the State Committee of the USSR, a Member of the Coordinating Committee of the Federal Environmental Program “Revival of Volga”. From 2003 he is a Member of the Working Group on the UNESCO project “Sustainable Development of the Volga Basin and the Caspian Sea” and the Scientific Council on Problems of Hydrobiology, the Ichthyology Department of Biological Sciences of Russian Academy of Sciences, the Presidium of the Samara Scientific Center of Russian Academy of Sciences, the Science Council of the Governor of the Samara region. He is a member of the editorial boards of the journals “Proceedings of the Samara Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences”, “Volga environmental journal” (Saratov), “Ecological Bulletin Ugoria” (Surgut and Khanty-Mansiysk), “General and applied tsenologiya” (Moscow) , Bulletin “Samara Luka” (Tolyatti).
G.S. Rosenberg  read the course “General Ecology” (from 1988) and a number of special courses in Samara and Togliatti University. He is the Head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Sciences of Volga University named after V.N. Tatishchev (Tolyatti). Under his mastering and with his consultations protected five doctoral and 22 candidate’s dissertations.
